I've lost fitness, but meh, it's okay. I'll be working hard to get it back. Onto subject 2- high school track.

I called the Superintendent to discuss track repair. He listened to what I had to say and told me that he would have the Assistant Superintendent call me back. Well, I waited a good 24 hours and no call. So, I called him myself. Nothing. To my surprise, during our language lesson Monday, he came waltzing into my classroom. So, I made my points, but did save the big dog point for a rainy day. My given points for repairing the track are as follows:
1. Out of 3 high schools in the county, none are able to host track meets.
2. Track and Field is the 3rd most popular sport among males, and the 2nd most popular among females.
3. This year, our school will dress out more track athletes than the football team. (Oh yeah, baby!!!!)
4. We have a one million dollar (yep, that's right) football stadium, but the track around it is broken???? Doesn't make sense.

I do have one more point, but I am saving it, like a smart girl, until he's REALLY thinking about turning me down. He listened to everything I had to say and told me to get some quotes/estimates for getting it fixed. I found some companies around this area that do that sort of thing, but right now they are busy fixing half the town from where roads washed away. Where are the priorities? (Joking.)

The last piece of news is AWESOME! From the athletes in the Brooks ID Program, 100 athletes are chosen for the top tier program called Bluestreak. I was selected! I couldn't be more excited about 2010! After a less-than-stellar *cough, cough* 2009, bring ON a new year!!!!

Run strong, friends!

Added Monday morning: Yeah, so some kids decided to break in and vandalize our school Saturday night. They went in classrooms, including mine, and messed a bunch of stuff up. They would've stolen some things, but got caught in the act (yeah, police!). So, late yesterday, I got to go to my classroom and reorganize every piece of paper that was in the room. They even unclipped binders and threw the papers around. Also, they broke one of my running trophies (I use a few running trophies in reading group, long story for another time.) and threw about 5 bazillion paperclips all over the floor. The good news is that nothing (besides the trophy) is damaged permanently. They did hit up the middle school and did a real number there- crashing computers on the floor, spray painting, and basically destroyed the entire science lab. Soooo.... Tues/Wed we had a flood; Wed someone hit and run my car at Walmart, leaving a large scratch below the light, and this now! Am I cursed? I mean, seriously, is it normal for some many bad-luck things to happen to one person?

  8. A big congrats on being selected for Bluestreak. You will always be super fast to me.

Sorry to hear you've had to deal with so much. It sounds like you have a good handle on the track situation, and you have made a great case for it. What the higher ups decide to do with that is our of your control.

  9. Oh, that makes me furious for you and other educator colleagues about the break-ins and vandalism. Hope the catch the kids who did it! The Brooks program for top tier athletes, though...that's awesome! Congratulations on your selection.
