What happened to the 60s?

I'm talking about temperatures, people. Today was AWESOME. It's been in the upper 70s for the past, well, forever. This morning, I walked out to a FRIGID 57 degrees!!!! Wowzers! It felt so good. You can guess what I wanted to do, too- run fast. Nothing like drastically cooler temps to make you want to bust out like a Churchill Downs racehorse. I did manage to keep the reins on things, though, as I was running a 9 mile recovery. I did my last speed workout yesterday- 9 miles total, 6 @ 6:31. I'll probably do a few miles at GMP this weekend, but nothing major.

The taper is going well. No real pains or anything freaky the past few days. I'm trying hard to keep the weight off. The problem is, well, I like to eat. I know, bad, very bad. My classroom attendance is back to 100%, so no sicknesses on that end. I'm also being very careful. I was hanging up my new US map in the classroom and I made conscious decision of taking off my heels BEFORE climbing on the desk. See? I really am thinking ahead. I'm trying VERY hard to get extra rest. I know that would really help me right now.

So... that's about it! A little over a week and it will be here.

  1. good luck and way to be careful! I had such an amazing run today too because of cooler weather here. Walked outside to 55 degrees at 10 AM so I tunred my midweek 12 miler into 12 miles with 6 @ 6:15 pace which was probably the fastest tempo of that length I'd ever done. All because of the weather!

  2. Very cool post on GIM's blog yesterday. It takes a special person to publicly make that offer.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Have a blessed day and try not to freeze!

  4. Good luck on your race! I'm sorry I can't remember what race you are doing and can't seem to find it in your blog. Which race are you doing? Chicago?? Selfishly I hope you say Chicago cause I would love to hear your race report since I will be there (although much further back).

  7. +1 to Marathon Maiden. 57 is about our high up here in WI. Feels pretty good to you, I bet. The south has had a rough summer.

  9. Dang girl, 6@6:31...you are my queen! You're going to have a race to remember, I'm SO excited for you. Keep being clever about the heels/map/desk type of thing, that was a smart move.

  10. Isnt it just grand to have a cool morning like that?? Hopefully your race day is the same... without the rain of course. Your 6 miles of tempo is darn near my 5k race pace!!! Studdette!!!

  11. I've given up trying to guess our daily weather here...still in our transitional season here with 45 one day and 70 the next!

Anyway...you're almost there! WOO! Killer pacing on that last run.
