Rain, Wind, Coughing, and a Possum

Today's LR was AWESOME (sarcasm here). Apparently, I've gotten sick. Nothing too serious, just an annoying smoker's cough, sore throat, and clogged nose. You know, the common cold. When I woke up this morning, I was thrilled with the outside temperature- 55*!!!! So, I set out to run 18ish miles. It was still dark, so I couldn't tell the condition of the sky. I was about 3 miles in, when the wind really picked up. It was a blow-your-ipod-out-of-your-ears wind, too. Talk about a pace killer. I pressed on, heading over the Murder Creek Bridge to the "other" side of town. I thought maybe if I got onto some side streets the wind would be blocked by some of the trailers. That was a stupid thought, considering we all know how flimsy those things can be. Anyway, I was lolly-gagging along when the bottom fell out of the sky. It wasn't just pouring, but it was that windy rain that stings your face so badly you have to close your eyes.

At that point, I made a beeline for the school (about 1/2 mile away) and hunkered underneath the awning out front. I waited about 5 minutes, only to realize this was NOT letting up any time soon, so I might as well just go. The thing that angered me the most is that I knew I was getting new Trances dirty/wet. I thought about breaking into my own classroom and getting some baggies. LOL, joking.

Onward I pressed. The rain started to let up, and was finally down to just a drizzle when a possum ran RIGHT out towards my feet. Eeeeewwww, I hate critters. This was no baby either. It was as least the size of my middle cat.

Finally, with the rain tapered off, and the critter gone, I could relax a bit. The problem was that rain storm brought some really frigid air. In fact, the bank clock now read 47*- WWAAAAAYYYY too cold for a wet short sleeved shirt. Nevertheless, I just kept on. And it was misery, but I did it, and finished out a strong week.

  9. You are definitely living up to the Peter Maher quote! You definitely chose to be strong today (well yesterday). Way to go. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?
